Shelby slept almost all night long. Despite this she was able to fall asleep during speech therapy again this morning. She is talented to say the least. Her PT today was awesome though. She continues to work on posture and getting her core muscles prepared to hold herself upright so she can move into standing soon hopefully. OT today went pretty well too. Her right hand is very adept at doing what she wants. At this point it is just going to be strengthening exercises for that hand. she can do just about anything she wants it is just a little weak. The left hand continues to be a problem, but she continues to work very hard to get it to do what she wants. Her heart rate is beginning to stabilize a lot more so they are going to try and wean her off of one of her meds that is likely contributing to the drowsiness. Hopefully with this and continued sleep during the night she will start to really perk up during therapies that are not necessarily all that active. She is still very sharp though and when she is awake and engaged with you she is still the same Shelby that she was prior to the surgery. Before I left this evening we were talking and when I told her how much I loved her she spelled out on the board "maybe now, but in 10 years you may find someone that doesn't need the same amount of care that I do." This is a very good sign to me. She has always joked with me about me finding someone better in 10 years and leaving her. Pretty silly, but it is a just a little slice of our inside jokes that really show me that she is there and that it will just take time and effort until she is back to normal. I won't lie, I really miss talking to her. There is just so much lost in what she says when she has to spell out her words. Our evenings were always fun and she could always make me laugh. She still does, but her humor is mostly in her facial expressions right now. I miss the Shelby sarcasm. Tomorrow Corby will be taking the lead on therapies throughout the day so that I may run around and take care of some errands that have been piling up. If you wish to swing by to see Shelby feel free, but I will not likely be there until late, late afternoon or sometime in the evening. Until tomorrow pray that she continues to get better rest, that her left side keeps getting better, and that her speech picks up soon.
