April 25, 2009 a decent week and now a turn for the worse
I had planned on making an update today that talked about some of the progress she made this week (there was sound and voice, and great PT) but now she has been moved to the ICU so I'm just going to give an update on what has happened and talk about the rest of that stuff in a future post. She has been having vomiting spells since being placed on vancomycin for her infections. It appears that she aspirated some of her vomit and started having trouble breathing. The source of vomiting may be due to a bowel obstruction, but they are not sure yet. When they reached the ICU they drained about a liter and a half of brown fluid from her stomach. That is all we really know, but I will keep everyone updated once we get more info. Right now she is intibated and sedated. Pray that this is only a short setback and that she recovers quickly. Pray that this doesn't become a bigger problem. Pray that Sue and I can get some sleep because we are both pretty worn out at this point.

Tons of prayers for you. Tell Sue that Creekside is praying, too. Continue to talk to Shelby. She can hear you, and she must be so frustrated. You are one strong young man! Of course, we are praying for your continued strength through this difficult time. Linda

Matt,
We are praying for Shelby, you, and Sue,and I know God hears our prayers because he says "where two or three are gathered in My name..." It doesn't say we need to be geographically in the same place or at the same time. We love you and we know He will bring Shelby back to health and give you all the strength to make it through this.
Love you, son,
Mike

We are here in Montana thinking of you and your family during this time. I have pictures of Shelby from our wedding over 16 years ago and keep thinking of her being so young- both then and now. Please let her know that we are thinking of her.

Lord, we come to you anxious about the future yet confident You are there. I pray for Matt & Sue that they would get great sleep & rest in these next hours & that miraculously they would regain energy from even short stints of rest. Sweet Shelby we again & again give to Your hands. We pray that she, too, would grow in strength as her body heals. Lord, I pray that You would see fit to heal her body completely. We praise you for the things she did this week and this time of intubation would not hinder those progresses. we ask these things knowing You are sovereign. In Your loving name.

Hi Matt. I'm Mindy Brookshire's brother. We lived next door to Kitty and Hershel in Merced. When I was young I took some trips with Shelby and Jericho on "the houseboat" for a couple summers. I also remember her at my sister's wedding. I just wanted to let you know that you have more people (in Denver) thinking about you and Shelby. Hang in there, and thanks for keeping this blog. I'll be checking it regularly! Rick B
