April 29, 2009 Still in the ICU
Sorry for the lack of information recently. I hope none of you have worried too much. Shelby is still in the ICU. She is also still on the respirator. Her pneumonia never got extremely bad so assessing how much better it has gotten is difficult. Her labs came back today and she is making improvements. There is no way to tell how long she will be on the vent but the doctors are hopeful that tomorrow or in the next few days she can come off of it. She is on the most minimal support the vent can give but when they turn it off her respiration rate is too high to allow her off the vent right now. Her bowels are still moving and they have started feeding her again. The doctors are still baffled at the wrist. No one really knows what is happening with that. Her hemodynamics appear more stable as well. Her blood pressure, heart rate, and sinus rhythm are all better since she came to the ICU. All-in-all she is still making progress. It is slow progress, but progress nonetheless. Until the next update just keep praying for her to get out of the ICU and back to rehab. I know I had been frustrated with rehab her slow progress there and her wrist problems, but if there is one thing this stint in the ICU has taught me - things could always be worse.

Thanks for the update. I check it every day. I was happy to hear the encouraging news today. Tell Sue and Shelby that we are still holding you and them close to our hearts in prayer. I was happy to see Mindy and Rick (Montana & Colorado), my children, are also praying for your peace and for Shelby's complete recovery. I only know you, Matt, through this blog;however, someday I want to shake the hand of the man our Lord prepared to be Shelby's husband.
