For those of you that don't know Shelby was intubated again on Friday. At this time she is not able to maintain her own airway because she loses a lot of her secretions down into her lungs. This has placed her at greater risk for pneumonia and generally makes it difficult for her to breathe on her own. She has been sedated all weekend and mostly has been on pressure support. She is able to breathe fairly well on her own it is just a matter of maintaining that when she doesn't have the tube for protection. Tomorrow she will be going in for a tracheostomy at 9 am. This does not make me happy and I'm sure most of you are not pleased either. It is her best chance, however, to continue gaining strength and ultimately be able to continue with rehab without much fear of her continually aspirating vomit or her own secretions. At this point it is unclear when or if she will have the trach tube removed, but at this point maintaining her airway trumps anything else. I don't have much else to tell everyone. Pray that her procedure goes well tomorrow. Pray that she can come off the respirator quickly and that she can get back to rehab in short order. Pray she starts making progress again. It is something we need to see and you all need to hear about.

Matt, Thank you, thank you thank you for the updates you do on this blog site. I know they are time consuming and are probably depressing for you when no there is no progress to report but they are very much appreciated. Our love and thanks, John and Diane.

    Shelby and Matt,
Your both in my thoughts and prayers. Somehow, even though it has been such bleak news lately, I still feel that Shelby will not only survive but do well. I can only hope that it becomes true. Matt, please take care of yourself.
